Secondary Source 1 – previous conflict made the war inevitable
In this source, the author explains how the war was caused by the events previous to it. Some may say that the events before the Civil War were preventable which made the Civil War avoidable but in this source, the author explains how that isn't true. The main reason for the civil war was about slavery and the political power between free and slave states. No matter what would've happened, people wouldn't have given up their slaves willingly and therefore the conflict would continue to exist until the problem was solved. Since people strongly believed in their right to own slaves, then they would claim war on those who were trying to take that away, making the war inevitable.

Secondary Source 2 –
In this source, the author explains how the issue of slavery had continued to be "swept under the rug" and wasn't solved until people pushed for it to finally either end or continue without question. Since the issue was avoided so much, it led to a secession of states that believed in slavery. The reason for their secession was because they felt threatened by the growing power from the North in the house and saw it as unfair and the North becoming the dominant player. The South didn't want to lose their power so they seceded which eventually lead to war.
